Student Policies & Information

Student Rules

BE RESPECTFUL. All students and their parents are expected to treat lesson mates, fellow parents, ColdRush & rink staff, & other rink patrons with respect. Inappropriate language, spitting on the ice, talking negatively about other players or coaches, yelling, rude or disrespectful behavior is not tolerated.

TRY! Effort is our primary expectation. Talent and experience are not pre-requisites, but self-motivation is! Students unwilling to try their best will be removed from the schedule regardless of parent/coach wishes.

Inclement Weather Policy

*** COLDRUSH DOES NOT FOLLOW THE SCHOOLS! ***

When the weather is inclement and travel to the rink is dangerous we will cancel our lessons. We do NOT base our cancellations on the schools’ decisions so please check our website whenever the weather is questionable. In the event of a cancellation we will make the announcement through twitter by 5AM for morning lessons and by NOON for afternoon lessons. Our tweets are visible in the bottom right corner of our home page and are also posted to our Facebook page. We are working on setting up a text system so that we will be able to send texts to those students that have opted in for urgent text messages when lessons are cancelled. We hope to have that in place before the first snowfall, but please don’t count on that until we’ve made the announcement.
If we have not cancelled lessons but you believe the roads are unsafe, use your own best judgment. You will not be penalized for missed lessons due to inclement weather as long as you submit a cancellation prior to your lesson time.

Canceling a Lesson

The cancellation policy applies only to pay in the rear semi-private lessons. All of our pay-in-advance programs such as ColdRush INTENSIVE, Elite skills w/ Halpern, and the Summer Program, can not be cancelled for a refund. For most of our pay-in-advance programs we build in a free day to make up for occasional student cancellations.
Students are excused from payment for missed lessons as long as the cancellation was submitted at least 24 hours before the scheduled lesson. In the case of an emergency or acute illness, notification prior to the lesson will be sufficient as long as extenuating circumstances are explained in the message.

Other forms of notification, such as telling your instructor or sending a text or email, while appreciated, will not serve as officially cancelling your lesson.

*** Students will be charged full price for lessons that are not cancelled according to policy!
*** Excessive cancellations, even excused cancellations, may result in the loss of your lesson spot.

Please use the new cancellation link below for ALL cancellations!

Lesson Cancellation

Surrendering/Discontinuing Your Lessons

Discontinuing your lesson: If you find it necessary to discontinue your lessons for the season, we require two weeks advanced notice by email. Please email us at cancellation@ColdRushHockey.com and put “Discontinue Lessons” in the subject line, and the reason you are discontinuing your lesson in the body of the message. If you do not receive an email confirming that your message was received within 24 hours, please send your message again. All pre-paid programs, such as ColdRush INTENSIVE, may not be discontinued except in cases of injury or emergency.

Suspending your lesson: If your student is injured or has an extenuating circumstance which requires that they suspend their lesson for an extended period of time, please send a message to cancellation@coldrushhockey.com, put “Suspend lessons” in the subject line, and explain the circumstances in the body of the email. In many cases we are able to place a long term sub in suspended lesson spots until the student is able to return.

Liability Waiver

Participants Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk, and Releases

I, as the parent/guardian of the student I am registering in a ColdRush camp, clinic, event, lesson, or program, or for myself, hereby give my permission for my child or myself to participate in Wendy Marco’s ColdRush Skating and Hockey Programs (“Programs”). In consideration of being allowed to participate in any way in the Programs, related events and activities, and in consideration of services rendered by the “Releasees” listed below, the undersigned specifically acknowledges, appreciates, represents, and agrees that:

The risk of injury from the activities involved in the Programs is significant, including the potential for permanent paralysis and death, and while particular rules, equipment and personal discipline may reduce the risk, the risk of serious injury does exist; and I knowingly and freely assume all such risks, both known and unknown, even if arising from the negligence of the Releasees listed below or others or hidden, latent, or obvious defects in the equipment, premises, or facilities used. I further state that I am in proper physical condition to participate in the Programs. I assume full responsibility for my participation, and I willingly agree to comply with the stated and customary terms and conditions for my participation. If, however, I observe and unusual significant hazard during my presence or participation, I will remove myself from participation and bring such hazard to the attention of the nearest official immediately. I understand that participants in the Progams will be training with and utilizing customized equipment and that timing devices may be employed.

I, for myself, and on behalf of my heirs, assigns, personal representatives and next of kin, hereby release and hold harmless Ashburn ice House, CRP Management Group Inc., Kettler Capitals IcePlex, their officers, officials, agents, contractors, and/or employees, other participants, Wendy marco, ColdRush, and SkatePower LLC, and their instructors, contractors and/or employees (“Releasees”) with respect to any and all liability, claims, injury, disability, death or loss, or damage to person or property, whether arising from the negligence, both passive or active, of the Releasees or otherwise. I have read this waiver of liability and assumption of risk agreement, and I fully understand its terms. I understand that I have given up substantial rights by signing it, and I sign this waiver and release freely and voluntarily without any inducement.

Photo/Video Waiver

Consent to Use Image

I hereby consent to and authorize the use, reproduction, and copyright, in print or electronic format by ColdRush, SkatePower LLC, and its assigns and transferees of any and all visual materials, including photographs and motion pictures, which may be taken during Wendy Marco’s ColdRush Skating and Hockey Programs for any publicity, web site, or marketing purpose, without compensation. All visual materials, including electronic, negatives, and positives, together with the prints, are owned by ColdRush.

What to Wear

ALL PROGRAMS:
ColdRush jerseys are provided for camps, Spring Training, and clinics and should be worn for those programs. Any team jersey may be worn for semi-private and private lessons.
*Attire that represents/advertises any hockey school, camp, or instructional program other than ColdRush is not permitted.

HOCKEY SKILLS LESSONS, CAMPS, & SPRING TRAINING:
Full gear is required.

HOCKEY SKATING LESSONS:
Helmet, gloves, shin guards, mouth guard, and stick* are required. Full gear is encouraged. (While the majority of our lessons are taught on private lesson ice a few are on public sessions. Hockey sticks are not permitted on public sessions)

GOALIES: We recommend that peewee and younger goalies wear skater gear to all instructional programs unless they are taking shots or otherwise advised by their instructor. Bantam goalies please ask your instructor. Midget and older goalies may wear full goalie gear, but this gear is NEVER to be used as an excuse to skip a single drill or push at a lesser pace than the rest of the students on the ice!
