Coach Mike Says Goodbye

Coach Mike Ansell

After 12 years with ColdRush, first as a student, then as an assistant, moving up to part time coach, six years ago transitioning to full time coach & director of hockey skills, then finally becoming a partner in many aspects of ColdRush, Coach Mike is saying goodbye.  He and is family are moving to Buffalo, NY.  His wife, Heidi, is from Buffalo and Mike was offered a position with a new state of the art, facility.  It’s an excellent opportunity for Mike, but he will be greatly missed!

Mike’s announcement:

Dear Players and Parents,

I hope the summer is treating you well!
I am writing you this letter to let you know that I recently accepted a position at the Harbor Center, a brand new facility opening in mid October in the heart of downtown Buffalo, NY.  I will be part of the Academy of Hockey on the coaching development team.

Since graduating from college six years ago, I have worked full time for ColdRush hockey.  For at least five years before that I spent my summers working for and training with Wendy. Those summers skating with Wendy are a major reason I reached my goals as a player.  Since joining the staff full time six years ago, I can say the same about my coaching career.  This new opportunity would not be possible without Wendy’s tutelage and guidance.  Despite the opportunity for career advancement, the decision to leave did not come easily. The relationship that I have with the ColdRush team, the family atmosphere we have developed, is very difficult to leave behind.

I also can not thank the parents enough for giving me the opportunity to work with your children. I am equally grateful for the players who allowed me to be a part of their development. I have learned so much from all of you, and you are also a big part of the reason I have been given this opportunity.

I will always remember my roots, I will always remember the start of my coaching career. ColdRush will be with me forever.

I will finish the summer here in Virginia before heading up north to start my new job in the beginning of September. I look forward to seeing you all throughout the summer and if your travels take you to Buffalo, please be sure to say Hello!

Sincerely,
Coach Mike Ansell
